Red stain on the foot of the back board. A few light spots in the margins of the text block. The marine life of the seashores of the Pacific Coast is a historicaly important work; a monumental breakthrough in equality for women considering that it was written 89 years ago, it was the second book written about the California Seahore and 12 years before Ed Ricketts' book, Between Pacific Tides, in 1939. Considered the bible of the seashore by naturalists and teachers for many years; reprinted by Dover publication, unabridged and unaltered edition in 1967, it is now considered a collectible albeit outdated text. ; 8vo. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. Square, solid copy of this book with gilt illustration of a shell on army green boards with green lettering on the front board. Gilt lettering on the spine. Spine top and bottom has some very minor rubbing. Corners are near perfect with a tiny bit of rubbing. Small dark stain at end of spine under the word MacMillan. Frontispiece has illustrations of a marine slug, a striped shore crab,a mollusk, and a sea squirt. Key to illustrations is printed on front tissue paper.
