First edition of this selection of verse from the early books of South African poet and apartheid activist Mongane Wally Serote (b. 1944), published while he was living in exile. Serote returned to South Africa in 1990 after the ban was lifted on the anti-apartheid African National Congress, of which he was a member. In 2018, he was announced as the National Poet Laureate of South Africa Johannesburg: AD. Donker, 1982. First edition. 144pp. 8vo. Blue textured-paper boards; white spine titles; dust jacket. Light shelfwear/rubbing to spine ends and board tips; one spot of ink soiling at base of textblock fore-edge. Very good in a like jacket with mild sunning to spine and panel perimeters. Edited and introduced by Mbulelo Vizikhungo Mzamane. .

Shipping Terms

All books ship free with tracking to domestic addresses via USPS Media Mail. In most cases, delivery takes place within a three to ten day window, although the vicissitudes of USPS may apply. Unless otherwise requested, expedited domestic purchases ship via USPS Priority Mail; overseas orders via USPS First Class International. Heavy or oversized books may incur additional shipping charges, as may books shipped to overseas destinations. Any additional charges required will be communicated promptly.

We take safe shipping very seriously; all of our books are packaged in new cardboard boxes amply cushioned with biodegradable packing peanuts. Pamphlets and other flat materials items are ocassionally shipped in bubble-mailers with internal cardboard supports.
