A fantastic introduction to the noted twentieth century poet Ted Hughes. Comprising three volumes of his poems, two editorials by Hughes, in addition to three critical bibliographical companions to Hughes' writings. In addition to poems by Hughes, this set has a very smart edition of 'Ariel' by his wife Sylvia Plath. 'Ariel' contains forty poems, which was taken from a manuscript by Plath. It was edited by Ted Hughes, who altered Plath's chosen selection and arrangement. He dropped twelve poems and added twelve composed a few months later and altered the poems' ordering. Hughes was assisted by his sister Olwyn, Plath's literary executor for this work.There is also a selection of Shakespeare's verse edited by Ted Hughes. 'Ariel' by Silvia Plath is dated 1983.With the following volumes of works by Hughes: 'The Hawk in the Rain' Faber Paper Covered Editions, (1968); 'Lupercal' Faber Paper Covered Editions (1960); 'Selected Poems 1957-1967' (1972). Hughes was one of the best poets of his generation.
