Nice 1st edition hardcover in orange/red cloth covered boards showing bumped spine ends and sharp tips. Green title box painted on backstrip lightly rubbed, showing color loss, hampering the viewing of the title printed there. Illustrated mapped endpapers show age-toning from DJ flaps, hinge papers fine, no names, tears or soil in the 235pp text. Original tan/green background dust wrapper has brown line drawing and titles. Backstrip is darkened, but title on jacket remains legible. Sergeant was great in every way, a massive, broad-breasted, galleon-ribbed dog with the noblest and gentlest of hearts resmembled a Mastiff. The story of how he and his master are pursued by the unremitting enmity of Joe Mallet, the gamekeeper, how Sergeant makes loyal friends, chief among them thirteen-year-old Simon, through whose faith and courage Mallet's plots are finally defeated.
