Drawing on his experiences in the trenches during the First World War, McNeile began writing short stories that would be published in the Daily Mail under the pen name "Sapper", as serving officers in the British Army were not permitted to publish under their own names. Written by Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author best known for his popular novel "Bulldog Drummond" (1920). In the original green cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and one small mark to the front board. Fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the end papers. Contemporary ink inscription to front endpaper. Very Good.
