Memorial tribute to prominent American educator Alice Freeman Palmer, former President of Wellesley College from 1881 to 1887, the first female president of an American college, and later the wife of Professor George Herbert Palmer of Harvard University. Transcription of the lofty service for her, illustrated with numerous tissue-covered photos of her over the years, richly printed in sepia photogravure. Penciled name in front of F.H. Green, presumably the educator and head of the private Pennington School. Very scarce book. In very good condition overall - interior clean and unsullied, binding firm, some soiling to spine and wear at head of spine, some loss to paper to bottom right tip of cover.
