A bit of a polymath, John Ruskin (1819-1900) became the most famous art critic of the Victorian era. Here is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition. Clean text; 119 pages with two lectures ("Of Kings' Treasuries," and "Of Queens' Gardens"). There is another title (" An Inquiry into Some of the Conditions at Present Affecting 'The Study of Architecture' in our Schools') bound with the lectures. Interestingly, its publication date is 1866, while this copy has a gift inscription dated "Christmas 1865" on the FFEP. Quercus ponders the sequence. Brown cloth binding (possibly publisher's purple originally). Embossed decoration on the front cover of a painter's palette; gilt lettering on spine, rather faded.
