This is the bookplate of Reginald Brett, the 2nd Viscount Esher, a historian and Liberal politician, who is known for his influence over military and foreign affairs. In the original publisher's paper covered boards, with pictorial onlays to the front boards. Externally, generally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Spines are a little faded and rubbed. Minor marks to the boards and spines, marks a little heavier to 'By Underground'. Cracks and a small amount of loss to the spine of 'Mr. Cupboard'. Light discolouration to the boards of 'The Parrot and the Cat', 'The Italian Conjurer', and 'Sergeant Poppett'. A small amount of wear to the tail of the front board of 'Fruit Stoners'. Fading to the boards of 'Maria'. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Institutional stamp to the recto of the front endpaper of 'Fruit Stoners'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
