Methuen in London and Appleton in New York first published the book simultaneously on October 30, 1896. Near Fine condition. No Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white but has moderate foxing on almost all of the pages, tight, straight, slightly canted, with bright gilt top-edge, deckled fore-edges, and no markings of any kind. The Binding is full tan cloth, color uniform throughout, with bright gilt design, title and author's name to the front board, gilt title, etc., to the spine, corners square with light wear, the front free endpaper contains a gift inscription and tipped-in poem by Kipling, and the obverse of the rear endpaper contains quotations in pencil from the text of the book. No Jacket. See photos. vii + 209 + vi (advertisements) pages. 5 1/4" x 7 1/2". A collection of poems mostly written while Kipling lived in Vermont that celebrate and comment on the British Empire and its necessary association with the seas and oceans.
