Note that the first printing occurred in August, 1896, and that this printing, dated 1897 on the title page, has a prior owner's name and date of 1896 on the front free endpaper. Very Good+ condition. No Dust Jacket. The Text Block is considerably foxed and slightly canted, but otherwise is clean, tight, and straight, with top-edge gilt, deckled fore-edges, and no other markings of any kind, but with two poems by Kipling affixed by a prior owner to the last sheet before the rear endpaper. The Binding is full apricot-colored cloth, faded at the spine, otherwise bright, with bright gilt design, title and author to the front board, faded gilt title, etc., to the spine, endpapers unmarked other than as described above and a very small paste-on of a long-gone bookseller at the foot of the rear endpaper. No Jacket. See the photos. vii, 209, [vi} pages (including six unnumbered pages of ads at the end of the book). 5 3/4" x 7 3/4". A collection of 42 of the author's poems, many in the style of a sea chanty and many in the style of "barrack-room ballads".
