".In Shadows Over Castle Rising Fanny Cradock continues her absorbing saga of the powerful Lormes family. Newcomers will be as enthralled by this new volume as those who are already familiar with the first part of the trilogy, The Lormes of Castle Rising. Once again she has excelled in her ability to recapture the splendour of the Edwardian era, an age of opulence and elegance which ultimately was to end in the catastrophe of the First World War. The subtleties of the changing relationships between the aristocracy and their servants are memorably conveyed. Behind a sparkling world of coming-out balls, presentations at court and revered traditions, the persistent taint in the Lorme line results in a series of misfortunes that bring the novel to a devastating climax."
