A first edition.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, and a number of monochrome vignettes.Arranged in ten chapters, including discussion of the pearl fishery, the nautilus, the chiton, spirula, oysters, and 'the power of molluscs'.With a former owner's inscription to the half title.With an advertisement leaf to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Back strip age toned, with bumping to head and tail, and handling marks to boards. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Tide mark to frontispiece. Pages clean and bright. Good.
