Add to basketA SHORT HISTORY OF ROME AND ITALY BY MARY PLATT PARMELE 1901 1ST HC. I was a bit surprised by the title of this book, and perhaps others of you who collect books about Italy will be too, for the same reason. I have many books about the history of Italy; none of them could really be characterized as short ! Gibbon runs to 7 or 8 volumes depending on the edition. So, please find: A Short History of Rome and Italy by Mary Platt Parmele. This small hard cover book (5 ¼ x 7 ½ inches, 276 pages) was published for the Bay View Reading Circle of Flint, Michigan, dated 1901 and an apparent First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. The book is bound in dark green boards with handsome gilt titles on cover and spine. One of the ways of keeping it short has been to eliminate the usual array of illustrations. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There has been some bumping to the corners and spine tips and a bit of light rubbing to the front gutter. There are a few light abrasions to the rear board, nothing severe. Inside (and this is what prompted me to acquire the book), the book is unmarked and the pages are bright and clean throughout, without any toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Language: ENG.
