Item description from seller

A lovely first edition of 'Shroud of Darkness', the 39th in E. C. R. Lorac's long-running series featuring Chief Inspector Macdonald of Scotland Yard. The first edition. With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper. From Golden-Age crime writer E. C. R. Lorac, the pen name of Edith Caroline Rivett. She published her first detective novel in 1931; this was The Murder on the Burrows, a well-crafted debut which launched her detective Macdonald on a career that was to last for more than a quarter of a century. Leads tied to the murder of a young man on a train are compromised by the heavy London Fog (the Great Smog of London, December 1952), leaving Macdonald to deduce that the case may have its origins in either Devon or the capital, or perhaps both. This is the 39th title in this long-running series. In the original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with only a touch of bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is very smart, with mild edge wear and a couple nicks to the wrap. Handling marks visible to the rear panel and sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. With minor toning to the endpapers, otherwise bright and clean. Fine.
