With the printing of this book on September 27, 1962 the birth of the modern environmental movement in the U.S began. Rachel Carson, a biologist and nature writer from Pennsylvania, authored the book to expose the hidden costs of widespread pesticide use, particularly focusing on their devastating effects on birds, insects, and the broader natural environment. Her focus was especially on the pesticide DDT and made the public aware that pesticides don?t stay where they are put; they get into the soil, water-ways, wildlife and human beings. Decades after Silent Spring, we are still discovering just how far these chemicals can travel and how deeply they affect human health and wildlife. A clean very presentable that has probably never been read or opened.
