This copy's jacket is missing a corner about 1" square, torn along half the spine, but without loss, missing a small triangle off one of the back corners, and chipped at top and bottom of spine with small loss. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. London. Macmillan. 1940. Presumed first edition. Hardcover with very scarce unclipped dustjacket. Grey boards with elephant vignette in black line to the front board and further vignette of hunter on the spine. Tiny bit of softening at the spine ends. Contents are clean apart from a previous owner name on the front endpaper. Lovely black and white line drawings throughout. Board corners bumped. Foxing to interior, but otherwise bright and clean. Binding is strong and firm and square. Includes, for example, the following: A Land for Animal-Lovers / Wolf-Children and a Baboon Boy / Locusts / Buffalo Hunting / Bouncing Birds / White Man's Magic/ Charged by a Rhino / Elephant Yarns / Making Men in Kenya etc. Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, (1857 1941), was a British Army officer, writer, founder and first Chief Scout of the world-wide Boy Scout Movement, and founder, with his sister Agnes, of the world-wide Girl Guide / Girl Scout Movement. Baden-Powell authored the first editions of the seminal work Scouting for Boys, which was an inspiration for the Scout Movement. Educated at Charterhouse in Surrey, Baden-Powell served in the British Army from 1876 until 1910 in India and Africa.
