Slain by the Doones is a little study on the theme of Lorna Doone; Crocker's Hole, a story of the catching of a mighty trout, is quite an epitome of Blackmore's humorous story-telling and loving descriptions of nature, and also of his richly laden, meandering prose." - Baker, A Guide to the Best Fiction in English (1913).This book includes those two stories, as well as Frida; or, The Lover's Leap and George Bowring.
