In his introduction, Surgeon General Terry addresses the "difficult" task of writing this report and his praise for those working on it for "professional skill and dedication of the highest order." While the dangers of smoking had begun to seep into mainstream articles and conversation prior to 1964, this report is the first Government "attack" on tobacco. As such, this report led to the avalanche of measures taken over the last fifty years to represent the dangers of smoking as openly and honestly as we can to those who choose to smoke and/or smoke around others.
