91pp. Octavo [22 cm] Disbound. Ownership stamp of a Port Jervis dentist on title page. Flake 5042. Defense of the Mormons by a non-Mormon and a plea for tolerance of polygamy. In the 1880s the federal government passed a number of laws against Mormon polygamy. Plural marriage had been outlawed in 1882, and the Edmunds-Tucker Act of 1887 would deprive the Mormon church of corporate powers. "Dyer D. Lum was the leading anarchist-syndicalist of the 1880s.
