This volume attempts to consolidate the information that has been developed for several solid-fuel reactor types which have received serious attention the United States, but which were not yet represent by operating prototype pants. Solid fuel reactors have been in operation on a sizable scale since 1944. The information presented is of three main types: 1. general research and development results, and advances in various coolant technologies; 2. design data for specific reactors, which represent the integration of research and development results with design studies, and 3. analytical studies whose purpose had been to direct developmental efforts and to define the design areas for various reactor types.
