A scarce, first edition of this selection of Rudyard Kipling's songs for children, with the exceedingly scarce dust wrapper. From the library of Kipling's literary Agent AP Watt. First edition. Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped, vanishingly scarce dust wrapper.Written by British poet, novelist and short story writer, Rudyard Kipling, who was best known for his novel 'The Jungle Book', as well as for his extensive poetry. This work is comprised of Kipling's poetry taken from his other collections, with the aim to select those poems most appropriate for young people. The collection features some of Kipling's well-known poems, such as 'The Ballad of the East and West' and 'If', but also contains some of his lesser-known verse, including 'Big Steamers' and 'The Way Through the Woods'. Illustrated with eight beautiful colour plates by Leo Bates. Collated, complete. From the library of A. P. Watt & A. S. Watt of A. P. Watt and Son, literary agent of Rudyard Kipling. Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. A touch of fading to the spine. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edgewear and the odd tear. Loss to the tail of the spine. Wraps are lightly soiled, with the odd mark and a little spotting to the reverse. Sunning to the spine of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. Inside prelims are stained and there's an inscription to ffep which suggests publication date is 1924. Page holding frontis (illustrations are tipped onto pages) has a small tear at bottom. Text clean. 8 colour illustrations by Leo Bates. One other item to be aware of is that there is a swastika symbol on front cover and spine. But this was 1924 , well before the Nazi use of that symbol and was probably used because the book was largely about India. Seller Inventory # 001592
