Prouty explores the significance of the source materials used for this play to Shakespeare and his audience. Prouty examines all known versions of the story, including Peter Beverley's The Historie of Ariodanto and Ieneura, an adaptation from the Orlando Furioso once considered lost but reprinted in this work for the first time. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is in excellent condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper is sunned to the spine and upper extremities of the front and rear of the wrap, with a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine and to the upper extremity of the front of the wrap.
