About the Author

Tom Dent was the executive director of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, which sponsors the annual Jazz and Heritage Festival. He is the co-editor of The Free Southern Theater by the Free Southern Theater and the author of two volumes of poetry, Magnolia Street, and Blue Lights and River Songs. His oral history of the Mississippi Movement is in The Amistad Research Center in New Orleans and The Tougaloo College Archives in Mississippi. Dent is a native of New Orleans, where he now lives.
