First Edition. Self-taught connoisseurs Auguste Dutuit and his brother, Eugène, assembled in the second half of the nineteenth century an extraordinary collection of 20,000 works of art, including prints, drawings, rare books in exquisite bindings, Oriental art, antique ceramics, etc. In 1902 the entire collection was given to the Petit Palais in Paris, whence it has been dispersed to many French museums and libraries. The present volume is the catalogue of an exhibition mounted in 1869, with numerous fine plates reproducing some of the objects from the collection.
