First printing. Best known for her Newbery Medal book The Westing Game, Ellen Raskin was also an illustrator and book designer who wrote and illustrated picture books for younger children. (She also designed the original book jacket for A Wrinkle in Time.) Spectacles was Raskin's third book, published in 1968. It was named an ALA Notable Book and a New York Times Best Illustrated book, and it is rare in first edition. The story concerns a little girl who needs eyeglasses, and the clever illustrations show how she views (and mistakes) certain things and then, a turn of the page later, what is actually there. these illustrations certainly seem those of a graphic artist. Clever, quirky, and fun. Book has yellow cloth-covered boards with illustration in blue to cover and blue lettering to spine. Covers are clean, sharp, tight and square; pages are crisp, unmarked, pristine. Like new. Dust jacket with some rubbing and short tears, clean and bright, original $3.50 price intact.

All dust jackets are covered with clear, archival-quality protective book jacket covers.
Book condition: I try to be clear and accurate in my grading. Abbreviations used: FINE = Fine (new or very nearly new condition; clean, bright, not price-clipped, no previous owner marks, or any of these flaws mentioned); VG = Very Good (minor defects such as light edge wear and chipping or shorter tears to jacket, etc., with any greater defects noted in description); G = Good (average used book, any major defects noted); Fair = major defects and wear. N means 'Near,' as in 'Near Very Good.' XL means ex-library, and these books are not graded quite as strictly, though again, I try to describe them accurately (I have very few XL books). Previous-owner names and bookplates not always mentioned unless grade is Fine.
RETURNS: Within two weeks of receipt of book if not as described; you must contact us prior to making a return.
