The first edition in the publisher's original cloth with the original bright, unclipped dust wrapper.The first edition, third impression, first published in 1960.David Storey's first novel, This Sporting Life is a renowned work of "kitchen sink" realism, detailing the life of Arthur Machin, a professional rugby league player in Northern England. The novel won the 1960 Macmillan Fiction Award and was adapted into a famous 1963 film. In the publisher's original cloth with the original bright, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent. Dust wrapper very smart with light spotting and a few small chips to tail of backstrip. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright with occasional light spotting, heaviest to first and last few. Fine.
