Item description from seller

Uber-scarce in the trade, there being only one additional copy available on-line currently. Sterling condition softcover copy, with unfurled tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear. German language texts, and plentiful black-and-white illustrations and photographs throughout. From the publisher's blurb, translated into English, "The religious life of Jewish families from Rottenburg in Swabia is depicted in the "Jewish villages" of Nordstetten and Mühringen, as well as in the cities of Mannheim and Frankfurt. What began as a successful socialization and thriving business community in the small town turned into a tragedy during the Nazi era through emigration, Aryanization, and deportation to Gurs, Theresienstadt, and the gas chambers of the East. The book recounts the legalized plunder of Jewish property by the state and its citizens, the subsequent lack of a change of heart, as well as the lives of the emigrants and the gestures of reconciliation they received." xviii, 1-474 pp. plus a list of publisher's other titles.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Store description

Member, I.O.B.A. (the Independent On-line Booksellers Association) "Structure" versus "Agency." A phrase that has characterized much social-scientific debate. Does “structure” (the routinized regulations of kinship and marriage, work and reproduction, of race, class and gender) determine history, or is it the “agency” of fully conscious, independently acting, individuals? Structure, Verses, Agency Books isn’t going to solve the debate, but we’ll offer you lots of all three. Versus to verses—we specialize in fine, rare and collectible books, from the fine arts to the social sciences, from poetry to photography, from literature and ethnography to fine bindings and Americana. Structure, Verses, Agency Books…
