Stark Munro to his friend, Herbert Swanborough, who lives in Massachusetts, between March 1881 and November 1884.Munro's letters follow his attempts to start up a medical practice in partnership with an unorthodox yet brilliant man named James Cullingworth.This novel is in part autobiographical, following Doyle's own experiences as a doctor in Plymouth.Illustrated with a frontispiece and vignette title page.Twenty-four pages of adverts to the rear, dated July 1895. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the cloth. Spine is a little faded. Cloth to the rear board is a little cockled. A small amount of loss of cloth to the head of the rear joint. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots. Good. Seller Inventory # 910P15
