First edition. Octavo. 96pp. In-text photographic portraits. Full white and gray cloth decorated in black and gilt. Small owner label, fairly large stain along the spine, else near very good. Poetry by a prominent Methodist cleric about other clerics (mostly prominent in Ocean Grove), friends, and family, most with in-text portraits of the subjects, as well as nature poetry. Stokes was trained as a bookbinder, but started to preach at an early age. At his death in 1897, he was the President of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. He was largely responsible for the building of the Ocean Grove Auditorium. Quite scarce. Seller Inventory # 543156
