Item description from seller

1944. First impression. 210pp. Edited with an Introduction by Theodore Spencer. Stephen Hero is a posthumously published autobiographical novel by the Irish author James Joyce (1882-1941). Its published form reflects only a portion of an original manuscript, part of which was lost. Many of its ideas were used in composing A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. The book is bound in the original black cloth covered boards with bright gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light shelf wear and slight bumping to spine ends and corners. The contents are tight and clean with just very light foxing towards the middle of the front endpaper. No inscriptions.
