This book tells an exciting story of hundreds of ways that artist-craftsmen can use their needles to create and decorate upholstery, screens, hangings, skirts, blouses, vests, dresses, children's clothes, jeans, hats, jewelry, watchbands, handbags, and much more. Both advanced needleworker and novice will find a wealth of ideas waiting for them in over 300 photos, each accompanied by explanations of methods and materials, and diagrams where necessary. Even a painter or sculptor can find new means of expression in the textile hangings and soft sculptures that are shown here. There's a chapter on design principles and elements, that includes a special section on creating designs from printed fabrics, to help you adapt and invent new projects once you get your stitchery idea. There's a section on how to teach, how to learn, and how to exhibit stitchery, including suggestions for varying a basic vocabulary of stitches and a discussion of the all-too-mystifying experience of entering a piece in a stitchery competition.
