About this Item

London, Smith, Elder and Co., 1851-1853. First editions. The original bookseller's stamp of Charland in Southampton is affixed of the inside of the front board. Volume one has had the back of the binding redone at some point. The book is clean and unmarked throughout, there is moderate foxing in many places but overall very clean and the illustrations remain vibrant. Volume 2 is a first edition 1853 which has been rebound as pictured. The binding is strong top page gilt looks good, very clean inside, really free of any foxing or other flaws. Gilt edge on top remains vibrant. Volume 3 first edition 1853 rebound same as volume 2. This volume is also free of sunning, soiling and foxing even the color illustrations remain in spectacular condition. Overall this is an extremely solid and highly readable set sure to please any student of Ruskin or collector of this set which is becoming increasingly scarce.
