A Near Good volume. FIRST Edition with same date on both title page and copyright page. Original brown pebbled binding - lacking spine cloth. Rear board detached. Original yellow end-papers are clean, unmarked. Five (5) maps, one fold out - only one map with a 1" tear at lower edge (no paper loss). A previous owner name on white blank front free end-paper, dated 1894. There are five (5) threads in binding the volume, with one signature having two broken threads (page 75-94) , but still tight. One fully loose signature (pg. 219 thru pages 238 - laid in) which obviously had a newspaper type paper laid in at one time, as it has 'browned' (see photo). ONLY such blemish in volume. A six page Appendix at rear, followed by ten pages of publishers back list. A captivating biography of an American Confederate soldier. Fabulous item. Priced to reflect blemishes.
