Gleeson and full-page b&w illustrations and many smaller b&w illustrations by Rudyard Kipling, the frontispiece illustrates the first story, after that a color plate faces the first page of each story, 7"x 10", hardcover, heavy tan cloth with brown illustrations on front, spine and rear covers with gilt titles on front and spine, top page edges gilt, corners and spine ends bumped and lightly worn, spine ends starting to fray, light cover soil with three spots on rear cover, spine darkened, and a bit chipped, no dust jacket as published, color illustrated endpapers, both hinges cracked but holding, tape in hinge between frontispiece and title page, The Elephant Child s plate looks like it had been out of the book but is now taped in with bottom edge tears and creases taped on the back, the same with the plate for How the Alphabet Was Made but it also has tape along the fore-edge, both front and back, which covers tears, creases and a 1"x 3/8" missing piece, all the other plates are still bound-in and are clean and neat, pages are yellowing a bit around the edges, otherwise contents are clean and tight, book good (G) 5080 [Lss0617NV].
