8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 12mo. Pp. xvi, 256. Original decorated cloth boards, illustrated by Herbert Cole, with illustrations throughout in colour by Cole. Bookplate removed from the paste-down, rear endpapers glued-in upside down during production, clean throughout and the binding tight and square. Nice bright copy. A historical retelling by Christopher Hare of the legendary life of French knight Pierre Terrail, seigneur de Bayard (c.?1476-1524), known for his exceptional chivalry and virtuous character.
