First and sole edition of Captain JLJ Meredith's scarce book dedicated to the Somerset Light Infantry. The first and only edition of this work. A scarce volume, rarely seen in commerce. Found in only two institutional libraries - the British Library and the University of Oxford Libraries. This copy complete with its vanishingly scarce dust wrapper, unclipped, with army crest to front wrap 'From Normandy to Hanover, June 1944 - May 1945.'Featuring illustrations in the text and a folding map. Collated, complete.Complete with slip to half title reading 'This book is for the Somerset Light Infantry, for the men of the Seventh Battalion and for their next-of-kin. It is not for public sale'.Containing the Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert's) regiment's stories from the Second World War, from the landing in Normandy to the surrender of all the German armies and the Province of Hanover.Including Appendices with information on the Battalion Roll of Honour, lists of commanders and commanding officers, officers and warrant officers, as well as decorations and awards, with extracts from citations. In the original publisher's cloth backed paper covered boards with army crest to front. Externally very smart with only light bumping to head and tail of spine. Dust wrapper chipped with light loss to head and tail, closed tears to front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to first and last few leaves, pages otherwise bright and clean.
