First American edition, first printing. [vi], 155, [1] pp. Bound in publisher's beige cloth stamped in brown, red topstain. Near Fine with offsetting to endpapers from dust jacket. In a Very Good unclipped dust jacket with light edgewear, light toning and moderate soiling, and creasing to lower rear panel. An attractive copy of the existentialist classic. The Stranger was first published in France in 1942, in a limited print run of 4,400 copies. By 1946, Camus was an international celebrity thanks to his role as editor of the Resistance journal Combat, and his novel was simultaneously published in Britain and the United States to great acclaim.
