Hardback. Condition: Good. Sublime and Instructive (1972) by Virginia Surtees ? Michael Joseph Sold by Crappy Old Books ? purveyors of the faintly foxed and deeply fascinating. Part art history, part gossip column, and entirely soaked in Victorian sentiment, Sublime and Instructive is Virginia Surtees? lovingly detailed study of Victorian artists and their tangled personal lives ? mostly drawn from private letters, sketchbooks, and the sort of anecdotes polite society might?ve preferred stay buried. It?s a book that finds the human drama behind the oil paint and watercolour. Our copy has clearly survived several decades of polite neglect. There?s wear, there?s a wobble in the binding, and it might just smell faintly of your grandmother?s attic ? but it?s all there, gloriously intact. Crappy Old Books ? Where beauty fades, but the stories linger. Good condition hardback with paper dust jacket. Seller Inventory # 3805
