First edition. Octavo: 204 p. with publisher's ads at the rear. Original burgundy cloth binding, with gilt titles. Period ink inscription to the front flyleaf, otherwise the interior is clean and unmarked. Tight and square. The gilt title faded, a bit of wear along the extremities of the boards. The dust jacket is a little toned, with some general edgewear and chipping. "The first novel with serious baseball content aimed at an adult audience. The book is narrated by a former sportswriter, as Broun was, in love with a free-spirited, intellectual feminist, as was Broun's wife, while she falls for a baseball player who is clearly modeled on Babe Ruth. Numerous players of the 1920s appear by name" (Andy McCue, Baseball by the Books).
