Deckle-edged pages have tanning to edges and very sporadic foxing, some foxing also to verso of colour plates and their tissue-guards, colophon page at end marked, endpapers tanned and front endpaper has previous owner's inscription, binding still firm and tight; cover has some rubbing and light shelfwear, one corner a little bumped, gilt still bright. Green original publisher's cloth; lettering in gilt on the spine and on the front cover is bright; single ruled border in gilt on the front cover; t.e.g. and other page edges are un-trimmed; no previous owner's signature and no other internal markings; hinges are tight; no foxing; frontispiece is a scene in colour of the beach below Villa Fantasia by painter and illustrator Alswen Montgomerie; the seven other Montgomerie illustrations in colour and listed, are present and in fine condition as are all of the tissue guards; particularly beautiful are the casino gardens at Monte Carlo and the view from Monaco over the water to the snow- capped mountains; a handsome copy of a book seldom seen and if found the illustrations have sometimes been removed.
