Olimpiu G. Urcan was born in 1977 in Romania and holds a B.A. and an Advanced Studies Diploma in Medieval History (Babes-Bolyai University, Transylvania). His chess history articles appeared published in CHESS Monthly, ChessCafe.com, New in Chess Magazine, Chess Life, Quarterly for Chess History, The Chess Journalist, and other publications.
