Scarce; Longmans' Colonial Library hardcover edition. 1st Edition - this edition of Jan. 1899 precedes the 1st US edition of Feb. 1899 and the 1st UK domestic issue of March 1899. Red and white linen, lettered and decorated in gilt on spine, blue patterned end pages. Tissue guarded frontispiece and seven additional full page plates by Maurice Greiffenhagen [all present]. Whatmore F22 6(c) London: Longmans, Green, and Co. (1899), 348 pages. Good. Spine has been sunned to a brown color, cloth has a few soil spots. Dust darkened page edges, vertical crease on front free end page, tan colored pages.
