The second book in the Swallows and Amazons series. First thus, children's book club edition, rather scarce. Published February 1932 alongside the first American edition by Lippincott. First published in 1931 in Britain by Jonathan Cape. Stunning dust jacket mirrors the American first, but with green and yellow coloring rather than red. Jacket is age-toned with creases, scuffs, and subtle water-staining, but presents well in mylar. Chipping at corners and head and tail of spine. Spine creased and a bit sunned. Closed 1-2" tear at center of rear bottom edge. All corners of flaps clipped, front flap with heavy creasing near fold. Slight forward lean overall to textblock. Binding tight. Black cloth-covered boards are lightly rubbed overall and subtly soiled here and there. Green cover illlustration and spine and cover titling still bright but lightly rubbed. Corners bumped, some shelfwear to edges and head and tail of spine. Rubbing with extremely subtle cracking just starting to both joints. Lovely illlustrated endpapers are age-toned with a bit of light foxing but otherwise intact. Foxing to edges of textblock and green topstain is faded. Interior age-toned and a subtle ripple overall to textblock. An aged but still stunning copy of this hard to find edition of this magical adventure classic.
