Item description from seller

New York: Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1928. First American edition, first printing. Hardcover. Publisher’s original purple cloth, gilt spine lettering (faded), blind-ruled covers. A good copy, lacking the dust jacket. Octavo, 360 pages. "Swan Song" is the final novel in John Galsworthy’s Forsyte Saga, concluding the chronicle of the Forsyte family in post–World War I England. Galsworthy (1867–1933), who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1932, was one of the foremost British novelists and dramatists of the early 20th century, best known for his depiction of English social life and the decline of the Victorian upper middle class. "Swan Song" was his last completed novel, following "The White Monkey" (1924) and "The Silver Spoon" (1926), and completes the second trilogy of the Forsyte cycle. Bibliographic note: Scribner's first editions of this period are usually denoted by the letter “A” beneath the publisher’s colophon on the copyright page. Swan Song is one of the exceptions to that rule: true first printings carry the 1928 date but no “A.”.…
