At the time (1973), multiple personality was rarely diagnosed, till Sybil emerged as having a full 16 personalities, with 14 female & 2 males alternating for control within her shy, timid exterior. This book details the work the author did with Sybil as her therapist, attempting to untangle the damage caused by a hideously abusive childhood & merge the personalities into one complete woman. Even more interesting in light of later revelations that she (Schreiber) made the whole thing up, coaching her patient to enhance her own reputation. Basis for the 1976 movie starring Sally Field & Joanne Woodward, in 359 pages with Index & illustrations by the different "personalities" throughout. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1973, this hardcover has brown textured cloth over boards lettered in gilt to spine. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages moderately tanned, commensurate with age, but completely unmarked save for former owner's bookplate to ffep. Both ends of spine & corners show bumping/rubbing.
