Quarto. Textured cream colored boards and spine with black lettering on the spine are all clean and bright. Book has a very faint bumping at the head and tail of the spine. White endpapers. Binding is straight and tight. Pages are all clean, white, and crisp. 179 pages. Dust Jacket - has light rubbing at the head and tail of the spine and at the tips of the outside corners. 1/8" chip in the tip of each of the four outside corners, and in the rear corner of the tail of the spine. Light rubbing all along the upper and lower edges of the jacket. Light evidence of handling over time on the white rear cover. Large, heavier than average book will require additional postage on orders requesting International or Priority shipping services. This volume presents a translation of eight out of nine texts either carved in stone or stamped on copper plates that were discovered during the French expedition to the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos from 1928-1932. The books title comes from the fact that the writing system used in the texts was syllabic, not alphabetic. Book has a little wear, but presents very nicely. Tight, clean copy of a relatively uncommon title.
