Small octavo, pp. [1-5] 6-144, original orange wrappers printed in black, side stapled. First edition. Collects the anonymously presented "The Arab Wife: A Tale of the Polynesian Seas," pp. [5]-120, a short novel featuring adventure, pirates and romance in the South China Sea, and "A Strange Clue," a detective story presented anonymously as well. CHAMBERS'S JOURNAL (1832-1956), a Scottish weekly penny paper, was the direct inspiration for Dickens's HOUSEHOLD WORDS and ALL THE YEAR ROUND. Wrappers a bit worn at edges, a very good copy.
