"In telling the true tale of why James Hughes Callahan crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico in 1855, author Thomas O. McDonald destroys a decade-old myth. Using great primary-source research, Texas Ranger, Ranchers, and Realtors shows that Callahan and his extended family were yeoman pioneers of the Old South who found great opportunity in the Guadalupe River Basin. There is something here for everyone interested in antebellum Texas. This book belongs on every Texas bookshelf." . Richard McCaslin. As new, unread copy in dust jacket.
