About this Item
A terrific anthology of Churchill's essays and magazine articles from the 1920s and early 1930s on a wide variety of subjects, including "Painting as a Pastime." Issued in the U.S. under the title AMID THESE STORMS. A virtually mint copy of an apparent variant binding state of the First Keystone Library edition (not in the Cohen bibliography), bound in dark green cloth with the front cover lettering gilt-stamped. The rare dust jacket is present and nearly mint, dimmed ever so faintly along the spine and jacket edges only, else fine. The book is stunningly as-new, save for a dated former-owner's name in ink discreetly on the front free endpaper and faint flap shadows, front and rear. The contents are fine. Especially rare thus. The Keystone Library was publisher Thornton Butterworth's budget imprint that reproduced First Edition-quality books at affordable prices shortly following publication. According to Cohen bibliography, there were three binding states of the First Keystone Library edition. The third state is described as being bound in yellowish-green cloth, with the front cover lettering blind-stamped, rather than, as here, in dark-green cloth with gilt-stamped lettering, that conforms to in the more widely known variant First Edition binding. 8vo (320 pages, illustrated, , including frontis photo) (Cohen 95.3.?) (Woods A39ab). Seller Inventory # 144035
