# AS PICTURED - FIVE IMAGES # First Edition, First Impression, 1897. 8vo; brown buckram with gilt titles and decoration to upper board and spine, in much the same style as the author's previous work from three years previously : ' Among Boers and Basutos : The Story of our Life on the Frontier'. A robust volume, but darkened and soiled, with incipient fraying to corners. The edges of the pages block are very irregularly cut at fore-edge, with individual leaves exposed to darkening and wear, but without significant damage. Black eps; 252pp + Roxburghe Ex-Libris page + Reviews and details of the author's previous work. Full-page photographic reproductions at intervals, including the frontis of Government House, Victoria, with tissue guard and adjoining Title Page heavily foxed. Complete and securely bound, with very little foxing otherwise, but occasional grubby fingermarks, mainly near front. Effectively two books, namely 'Five years in the Seychelles', with XXIII Chapters, and 'Heligoland or, The Gem of the North Sea' with XX Chapters. Entertainingly written from the viewpoint of the wife of a senior Governor in Colonial times; with the inevitable prejudices of the age and her position, but with many personal observations and details of people and circumstances.
